Mortality Stops By

It appears that I underestimated how badly off I was earlier this week.

My left calf kept swelling up to the point where I couldn’t remove it from my workboot without severe difficulty at the end of the day on Thursday and had to wear lace-ups on Friday to even get it into work wear on Friday.

And now my current place of residence is in a hospital bed, having been diagnosed with a blood infection, which they’re telling could have been fatal if I hadn’t listened to the wife and visited the local urgent care center this morning. The urgent care folks took one look at it and said gtfo and over to the local ER. They saw it and popped out some admission paperwork, a huge syringe of antibiotics, and another of dilaudin and told me to cancel my weekend plans and call my employer about next week.

Anyway, the docs seem to have it and me under control for the foreseeable future. Lots of antibiotics and a decent amount of pain meds on tap. Discharge goal is Monday.

Carry on all. I got this handled. I’ll do a full write up when I get home.

Glad you’re getting the situation taken care of. Hope you’re back in the saddle soon, my friend.

  2. Ted says:

I had the same basic thing happen to me last year. Visit doc, straight to the ER then admitted. It can kill quickly, so I’m glad you’re getting the care. Good thoughts coming your way.

The mind relentlessly tries to find patterns and sort the daily chaos into order… you are the third person I’m aware of to fall prey to a blood infection in the last 2 weeks.

Is the Chemtrails or the Super Blood Moon coinciding with the Pope’s Visit? Either way, best wishes for quick and complete recovery.

Did they tell you exactly what you had? Ecoli, staph, or what?

  5. Ragin' Dave says:

Damn, dude. Sorry to hear of that. Take care of yourself, worry about the rest later. You can only save the world if you’re around to do so, you know.

  6. Chris says:

How did that happen? Get better!

  7. NotClauswitz says:

    Yikes! Get well soon!

  8. Rolf says:

Ouch, dude. That sucks. But it could have sucked a whole lot worse – it isn’t your wife writing that post posthumously. Take it easy – you have a perfectly genuine reason to take a few days off. Best wishes, enjoy the drugs, and thank God for modern medicine.

Wow. I’m among the many who are glad that you (or your wife!) caught that in time…I’d damn sure hate to be reading this as an obit, rather than a recovery report.

Speaking of which. I prescribe Bourbon and Cigars. No, they won’t heal the infection. But you won’t mind laying about quite as much when you get to do so with a drink, a smoke and a book at hand.
