What does Sen. Diane Feinstein do when an amendment to her gun control bill that would exempt veterans and those currently serving from it is offered?
She says they’re likely mentally unstable and gets it voted down.
The problem with expanding this is that, you know, with the advent of PTSD, which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War, it’s not clear how the seller or transferrer of a firearm covered by this bill would verify that an individual was a member, or a veteran, and that there was no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this.
So, you know, I would be happy to sit down with you again and see if we could work something out but I think we have to– if you’re going to do this, find a way that veterans who are incapacitated for one reason or another mentally don’t have access to this kind of weapon.
In just that first paragraph, she shows just how out of touch she is. How can she not know about the military ID network?
And how can she think that PTSD was “produced” by the war in Iraq?

This old Marine’s problem with PTSD is that some “cases” have nothing to do with combat. People who are stressed about the long separations from home and family or have trouble adjusting after getting back home, now have PTSD – even if they never heard a shot fired in anger!
Meanwhile, the guy who really is “shell-shocked” is lumped in with the assholes who can’t handle a little stress in their lives.
