Our daughter’s birthday is Feb. 14, so for my wife and I we try to celebrate early.
@Sumo Sushi. The 2010 Hall Paso Robles Cabernet is veddy nice.
Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.–Matthew Arnold, Dover Beach
(Theodore Roosevelt once spent eight days taking turns holding a trio of boat thieves at gunpoint in a Dakota ice storm. He kept himself entertained with Anna Karenina and the poetry of Matthew Arnold. Not bad choices, although Roosevelt’s Badlands neighbors all contended he should have shot the thieves dead and headed home with the boat. Would have made for a more comfortable reading experience, too. Ah, frontier justice!.)
