Will probably get promoted.

Russian Parliment votes to strengthen KGB successor

Russia’s parliament on Friday voted to boost the powers of the successor to the Soviet KGB, allowing it to summon people it believes are about to commit a crime and threaten jail for those who disobey its orders.

Rights groups said the proposed regulations could be used by the FSB security service to detain opposition activists and independent journalists and undermine President Dmitry Medvedev’s promises to foster civil rights.

I saw this story over the weekend and figured I’d hold onto it until the group did something worthy of bringing it up.

I didn’t even have to wait a week.

Police seize 100,000 anti Vladimir Putin books

The book, which has a total print-run of one million copies, aims to “tell the truth about the real results of the leadership of Putin and the tandem”, Mr Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister, wrote in his blog on Monday.

Mr Putin served two terms as president from 2000 onwards before being elected as prime minister. He is still viewed as Russia’s strongest political figure in a power tandem with his ally President Dmitry Medvedev.

Earlier this month, Mr Putin said that he supported opposition protests as long as they were within the law.

Somebody forgot that he “makes the law”. It’s the Russian way.

So, will the world finally see that we have yet another fascist who used to be a communist?

Probably not. The people that matter (aka: The EU leaders and Obama) would probably like to have the power he has and will ignore his latest maneuver.

This was a foregone conclusion. Frankly, I’m surprised that it too Putin this long to arrange this leap backwards. Probably something to do with a Central Committee which had to be placated first.

Nope, the Russians would love to have a return to the old Soviet days, if only they could get around those pesky laws of economics, etc, which used to be a burr under their saddles.

And Gravity. And Physics. And Human Nature.
Remember, these people dream of things that never were and say “Why not?”

And send you to the Gulag for sabotage when you can’t overcome the laws of physics.
