Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t a “science blog” engage in less, I dunno, statement of hyperbolic opinion as fact? (“Extreme paranoia”, etc.)
Ed Brayton (usually) discusses where science meets the sticky parts of human existence (religion, law, culture, politics, etc.).
Note that the article automatically equates belonging to a militia to being “paranoid” in some degree.
Paranoid schizophrenia is a medical disease, and it requires diagnosis by a medical doctor, not a science writer.
Too many people straying off their job-description reservations here.
Sometimes folks, you take the victories where ya can. Here is an editor for a media outlet actually saying, “Hey, these guys aren’t entirely off the mental reservation.” You don’t win people over all at once, you do it by chipping away at their prejudices, pet stereotypes, and preconcieved notions until they have nothing left to casually dismiss you with.
