IWW Starbucks Workers Union Statement Regarding Openly Homossexual Activity in Starbucks Stores

A healthy and safe work environment is the highest priority of the IWW Starbucks Workers Union. We also believe strongly that citizens exercising their rights under the law are entitled to respect.

The spread of pathogens amongst fast food workers and customers is a common occurrence that cannot be overlooked, and Starbucks is no exception. We appreciate the vigorous debate taking place by principled individuals on both sides of this issue. However, to date we are not aware of any efforts by Starbucks to widely engage its workers who are directly affected by homosexual activity and the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus. We believe an appropriate solution cannot be reached without doing so. We remain open to all stakeholders working toward a positive resolution that respects Starbucks workers’ right to a safe work environment.

Just as it was earlier this week, this mock press release makes about as much sense as the original.

    How can you work at Starbucks and NOT be gay? Are there even any non-gay “Baristas”?? Oh – they just don’t like the “openly gay” part like having sex behind the counter – but how can anyone tell with metrosexuals?

    Now, now. My brother is not gay and worked at Starbucks for a time. OTOH, he’s definitely metro, though….

    My cousin worked his way up from Barista to District Manager, and a more staunchly conservative hetero male you would be hard-pressed to locate.
