We’re with Stupid

I guess that they decided that Washington state is on enough stupid lists

Washington voters favored Al Gore for president in 2000, and so did a majority of U.S. voters. Yet George W. Bush was sworn in as president because he won the Electoral College vote.

It was the fourth time in history that an elected president didn’t win the popular vote.

Under a bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Chris Gregoire, Washington will pledge its 11 Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote. Washington joins a small but growing compact of states including Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey that allocate their votes that way.

The chairman of the nonprofit group National Popular Vote, John Koza, who wrote a book titled “Every Vote Equal,” was at the Capitol to witness the signing. The law means 61 electoral votes nationwide now will go to the popular-vote winner, almost one-quarter of the way to 270 electoral votes, the majority needed to activate the compact.

So far, only 61 Electoral College votes have been pledged to this idiocy. Let us all hope it stays that way.

One stupid list we’re not on but should be is the list in Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act

The so-called “guts” of the law require jurisdictions in nine states — Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia — and portions of seven other states to get Justice Department clearance for any changes in the way elections are conducted.

This case was in front of the Supremes yesterday. Hopefully, it will be seen as prejudicial and tossed on its ear. It clearly misses that any state, even (and especially) those “True Blue” states like mine who are engaging in monkey business.

Pierce County Auditor Jan Shabro has asked the County Council for permission to scrap poll voting for the August primary and November general election.

The move would save the auditor’s office $150,000 at a time when it’s cutting its budget and trying to avoid layoffs. Shabro said the move is for this year only and she is not proposing to permanently eliminate poll voting.

I left King County in the hopes of not having to worry about this crap again. Yet, only five months into my residency, here comes someone trying to make me vote by mail “for the greater good”.

After the settlement Stephen Sharkansky got out of the county along our northern border, Washington should have been added to the list.

Do I have this straight, that Washington voters are now enfranchised ONLY if their votes tally with the POPULAR VOTE of rest of the country, and they will be DIS-enfranchised if they do not?

    That can’t be Constitutional.

In fact, this quote from the progenitor of the bill seems to say that what Gregoire just signed is a direct end-run AROUND the Constitution:

“Rob Richie, a former Olympia resident who helped launch the popular-vote campaign as the leader of Maryland-based FairVote, said it’s a matter of fairness. Unlike past efforts to change the Electoral College system, this effort doesn’t require amending the U.S. Constitution.”

Actually, idiots, the ONLY way to change the Constitution is via the amendment process. Any others will never be legal, and in fact, could and SHOULD be called an act of rebellion against the United States.

My question to Gregoire is: are you preparing to secede from the Union? If so, that makes Oregon a border state with your benighted commie government, and some of us do things differently down here, such as FOLLOWING the US Constitution. I am prepared to join any militia which would close the border between our two states if you secede. I’m betting that Idaho would do the same, so unless you join Canada (and they won’t have you, since you keep dirty cities), you will be isolated and starved.

Another question for Gregoire: Did you copy this method of ignoring the Constitution from Hugo Chavez, because if memory serves, he’s done that several times as regards his national elections.

  2. Kristopher says:

    The law is unenforceable.

There is no way to legally discipline a faithless elector.

Once the Electoral College meets, then can install anyone … even an illegal alien from Indonesia.

So it no longer matters what you vote in Washington state, your vote is discarded and replaced by that of someone in California or New York (being the largest states in population, those have a big influence on the populat vote).
    Bye bye democracy.
