The wife and I haven’t been to dance clubs in San Francisco since before we met, and that’s thirteen years ago now. So we jumped at the excuse to check out the legendary 1015 Folsom in San Francisco because Nadia Ali was playing there.
The joke is that the name of the place is the address. Local deejays get kicks playing calls from clueless people asking “where is 1015 Folsom?”
We arrived early, and the dance floor was empty enough that the lights made interesting patterns on the floor.
Eventually it filled up and the deejay had a pretty good set before the main event. That’s the bar along the back wall, lit up with red neon.
1015 Folsom has three different dance floors, although we stayed on their main floor for the show. Overall, the place was disappointing. It’s known as a trance venue, and I should have expected that a place catering to drugged-out trancers would be comfortable skimping on the decor. The place is basically cheaply painted wallboard and light racks, and that’s it. Looks great in the dark, but occasionally I’d get a better view and the true nature of the construction was pretty evident.
We’ve heard much better things about Ruby Skye. We’ll probably check that out next.
