The State of New Mexico apparently missed his statement to the Canadian Human Rights Commission
The case of a Christian photographer who refused to photograph a same-sex “commitment ceremonyâ€, was heard before the New Mexico Human Rights Division on Monday.
A same-sex couple asked Elaine Huguenin, co-owner with her husband of Elane Photography, to photograph a “commitment ceremony†that the two women wanted to hold. Huguenin declined because her Christian beliefs are in conflict with the message communicated by the ceremony.
The same-sex couple filed a complaint with the New Mexico Human Rights Division, which is now trying Elane Photography under state anti discrimination laws for sexual orientation discrimination.
Whatever happened to freedom of association?
To be clear, I don’t care about the couple and their ceremony. They could have a ceremony a week with 200 other same-sex couples and it wouldn’t bother me a bit. Happiness if golden. More power to them. Nor to I care for Mrs. Huguenin’s opinion of the ceremony.
But if she doesn’t like it, and doesn’t want to do it because it offends whatever belief structure she has, there should be no punishment other than the word of mouth the couple whom she refused to take photos of can spread. Certainly, this is not government’s job.

Let’s hope a wise judge throws this case right out on it’s ass.
Don’t you know? The only thing the first amendment protects is the freedom of the press and freedom of speech, and that only includes sex and dancing naked for money. Every other part of the constitution is a living document that must be explained away if the circumstances require it. /snark
