Christmas in November

Mark your calendars, ladies and gents!

November 16th is the Grand Opening of the newest Cabelas in the US of A, Lacey, Washington.

An estimated 15,000 shoppers are expected to stream through the doors of Cabela’s when the outdoor-gear store opens for a 13-hour business day at 8 a.m. Nov. 16.

Officials of the Nebraska-based chain of stores expect the event to be as much a tourist happening as a routine store opening.“Our research shows that we have a fairly substantial existing customer base not only in the immediate Lacey area, but within and well outside a 100-mile radius,” Cabela’s spokesman John Castillo said last week. “There is quite a pent-up demand for this store to open.”

Here is a the current aerial shot of the store

I’ll be in Spokane this weekend, where there is another Cabelas just across the WA/ID border in Post Falls, ID. I may try to swing in there, if there’s time.

As for the Lacey store, while I won’t be able to grand opening day, I should be able to do one of the weekend days and be back here with pics on the following Monday.

consensus among the volunteers at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club’s Public Sighting-in Day this weekend (I was using my new skills as Range Safety Officer there): Nice to have a Cabela’s in the area, but unless you have someone on the inside to inform you of sales, you can get gunny stuff cheaper on the Internet most all the time, even with shipping.

Occasionally, they have a loss-leader sale on ammo, and those would be good to go to (it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, though), but damn near everything else is usually cheaper on the ‘net, in such places as Sportsman’s, Cheaper than Dirt, Natchez, etc.

To my knowledge though, Cabela’s is still the only place you can get your sweetie a tan-through (and semi see-through) swim suit, though.

The one in Post Falls isn’t open yet either, so don’t bother. I had some time to kill and just checked last weekend–they don’t even have the road leading up to it done yet. Haven’t heard any dates but I bet they’re aiming for the Christmas rush to open too.

Thankee Tom. I’ll save my time for pumpkin gathering and other family oriented activities.

That is, of course, after I spend Thursday hunting down near-future job prospects in town over there.
