With the Social Security system in a shambles and near collapse, leftist Seattle blogger “Goldy” complains that Mike McGavick, the Republican challenger for Washington junior Senator, Maria Cantwell’s, Senate seat, wants to be a big meanie and keep the fingers of illegal immigrants out of the SSI pie.
In his primary night victory speech, Mike?â„¢ McGavick went on the attack.
“With Social Security going broke already, I don’t think paying benefits to illegal workers makes sense. And yet Sen. Cantwell voted to keep that practice in place.”
But as Josh Feit points out over on Slog, that’s just plain uncivil:
“These are direct attacks on Cantwell’s opposition to an amendment that would have prevented former illegal immigrants (who had paid into the Social Security system) from getting those payments back when they become legal.”
Social Security does not pay benefits to illegal residents; what McGavick wants to do is deny legal residents from drawing benefits based on what they paid into the system when they were illegal.
What Goldy seems to forget is that it is impossible for an illegal alien to pay into the system while they’re not in the country illegally. The only way they can add a penny to the pot is to use a fraudulently obtained SSI# and add into that person’s account of sorts.
Goldy aparently wants the government to take the new non-criminal resident’s word as to how much he put into the system, deduct that amount from the account of sorts belonging to the person whose identity the formerly illegal alien stole, and then give them said amount.
How naieve can a person be? I mean really?
Let’s put this in perspective. Let’s say I have a fondness for underage girls, and like my female companionship young, at say, 14. Under today’s law, I am a pedophile.
I have a few flings, and soon enough, I get caught, and get charged with Rape 2. My defense, under Goldy’s logic, is going to be that somewhere (CA, most likely), there is a movement to make 14 the age of consent, so I shouldn’t be charged because someday it will be legal to have sex with a 14 year old kid.
This is not as far-fetched as you may believe. Two years ago, there was an initiative in Oregon that would have drastically RAISED the amount of pot a “medical marijuana” card-holder could possess, up to 6 ounces. The amount available for a “care-giver” was to be over a pound! Several pot dealers got busted while the campaign for said initiative was getting underway, and they all wanted to delay their trials because they thought that the severity of their offenses would be less after the initiative passed (it didn’t).
People are already drinking this Kool-Aid, Phil.
