The Soundboard: Wake Up Music

On Thursday I posted tunage for you to play tonight. Today I am posting music for you to play tomorrow.

I love a New Years Eve party as much as the next guy, but before I started woking nights regularly I usually liked to hit the rack for some shut-eye around 2AM or so.

In the past, long before I met the Analog Wife, I used to live in an apartment where my fellow tenants didn’t really need a reason to party, so when the week after Christmas came around, you’d have thought it was Mardi Gras or something, them wanting to “Party On, Til the Break of Dawn” and I couldn’t stand that because I always had to work the next morning. They’d be out in the building’s courtyard with fireworks, screaming, yelling, fighting, etc, until five or six in the morning.

But I put the time they wouldn’t let me sleep to good use.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of a ‘Bachelor’s Stereo’. It is usually some monstrosity with waaaay too many watts and waaaay too many speakers, well I had a grandady of one (2500 Watts, a mix of Polk, Kenwood and Aiwa, with six full range towers, one full range bar and dual 600 Watt subs)(I got it shortly before Jurassic Park came out on VHS. My neighbors knew when the TRex was chasing someone). I would spend the three hours that I should have been sleeping setting them in the windows.

About two hours after things would finally calm down, I’d play some special tunes for them, such as

The Drummer’s Call – The Black Watch

to get their attention. Then I’d fire up something totally obnoxious like

The Broadsword Medley – The Black Watch

When the police would arrive for the fifth disturbance call that night at my building, they usually just stood against their car until the medley was over and drove away. Cops like pipers.
