Never say

That the Dems dont know how to seize an opportunity.

Feeling strong in the City of Seattle, local Democrats are going to try and work their way around Initiative 200, passed just four years ago that got rid of preferential treatment for women and minorities in awarding government contracts.

They had been only somewhat successful using a specially made program called BOOST that had awarded 4.9% of the citys contracted work and cost Seattle taxpayers 1.7million dollars. BOOST offered monetary incentives to major contractors if they sub-contracted out to small companies.

The City Council is now complaining that because small companies are also owned by white males, the women and minority owned businesses didnt get the expected amount of the work.

Here is the Seattle Mayors new plan to skirt a CITIZENS INITIATIVE:

1. Try to make city departments and contractors more aggressively solicit bids from women- and minority-owned businesses.

2. Allow city contracts to set numerical goals for the share of contracts that should go to women- and minority-owned business.

3. Prohibit the city from contracting with companies that do not try to hire women- and minority-owned businesses.

In Mayor Nickels new plan, if you are male or if you are white or, heaven forbid, are both, you will be discriminated against.

The city will not pursue you for their contracts, they will mandate that if it comes between you and a female or minority contractor, you lose and they will refuse bids if they deem your record of hiring women and minorities as not so good.

Ill say it one more time, it is those on the left and the Democrat party who are the racists and sexists of today.

They dont burn crosses and they dont wear white hoods, but if you are a woman or a minority, they believe that you will not be able to get anywhere without their helping hand.

And if anyone on the left wants to try and dispute me on this, remember, yesterday, you had a Grand Kleagle berating and chastising a black woman on the Senate floor.

Or has that been forgotten already?

Ugh. Do you post this stuff to keep me commenting?

The idea behind affirmative action is that because so many generations of minorities were oppressed, there exists an imbalance in the total resources available over time to those whose families have been oppressed and may have subsequently not had the opportunities than those who have enjoyed a more privileged status in society may have had.

You’ve got to admit that there’s a big difference between losing a contract and getting lynched.

I did a search on “racism” on your site, and while most of the related posts seemed to focus on the transgressions of those in the Democratic party, I did find this post that seemed to speak out against racism in general:

I implore you to take a look at hatred so vile, that it matches the hatred our men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan are fighting. The only real difference being that these idiot man-children are here.

Other than that, there really isn’t much difference. They hate people like me and probably people like you. We stand in their way with ideas like support for Israel against the ‘palestinians’, acceptance of homosexuals in society at large and our ability to speak kindly with and make friends of others who are not Aryans.

I still think that if you really want to fight racism, there are better places to start than to defend white males, but at least you have not focused on them exclusively, so I have to give you that credit.

I’m glad too, ’cause you know my name and own a Boomershot rifle and a high powered scope.

Thank you for stating the fact that Affirmative Action is nothing more than getting back at people who are no longer alive.

I could see your explanation as being at least plausible if they didnt leave Americans of Asian descent out of the equations and if they didnt put women of European/Caucasian descent into the equation, giving them the title of champions of the Affirmative Action system.

Why should I, as a Caucasian male be made to sit out of a college or a contract because of something I had no hand in, namely slavery, secondarily, segregation and thirdly, sexual discrimination?

There are no former slaves currently alive, no college age sufferers of segregation and if there are still any women who lived when they werent allowed to vote, they arent doing too much right now. What has this current crop of minorities done or had to go through to earn this special preference? And why, if your reasoning is the purpose for Affirmative Action, are white women the biggest group that profits from it?

    I gots to know.

If racism is to be stopped completely, as is right, fighting the abuse of the civil rights for equal protection under the law of white males would be the final frontier of current, government sponsored racism that exists.

    Hence, my screed.

And Carl, I don’t hunt people who don’t threaten me.

That’s not what I said at all. Somehow you interpreted that, though I know not how.

I could see your explanation as being at least plausible if they didnt leave Americans of Asian descent out of the equations and if they didnt put women of European/Caucasian descent into the equation, giving them the title of champions of the Affirmative Action system.

How do you figure this to be the case? And if it is true, wouldn’t that just mean that minorities were even more discriminated against?

Why should I, as a Caucasian male be made to sit out of a college or a contract because of something I had no hand in, namely slavery, secondarily, segregation and thirdly, sexual discrimination?

Because, (theoretically) your parents and grandparents had more opportunities to accumulate wealth and status for you than did the parents and grandparents of slaves. I never said that it was right, or if I agreed with it. I was just giving the rationale for it’s formation to indicate that it’s inception was not due to pity or hatred.

There are no former slaves currently alive, no college age sufferers of segregation and if there are still any women who lived when they werent allowed to vote, they arent doing too much right now. What has this current crop of minorities done or had to go through to earn this special preference?

The theory is that because their parents did not have the money or education to help them because of discrimination, it is society’s responsibility.

And why, if your reasoning is the purpose for Affirmative Action, are white women the biggest group that profits from it?

    I gots to know.

    Umm… ’cause racism still exists?

If racism is to be stopped completely, as is right, fighting the abuse of the civil rights for equal protection under the law of white males would be the final frontier of current, government sponsored racism that exists.

It would be, if racism had indeed been stopped for those less advantaged than white males. My guess is that isn’t quite true yet.

    Hence, my screed.

And Carl, I dont hunt people who dont threaten me.

Ok, now I’m a little freaked out. Maybe I shouldn’t have made that joke?

Sure, whatever. I’m starting a new job and taking a class so just chalk it up to my Liberal laziness if I can’t write a lot for a while.
I actually had a realization today that if my goal is to establish real conversation between the left and the right, I should do what I’m doing here in some Liberal forums.
Don’t worry though, I won’t go away completely.
